The New Auto Mechanics - Doctors and Dentists

Have you noticed something?

The new auto mechanics are doctors and dentists. Ever go into one of those fast lube places and some guy with no teeth holding a dirty air filter slouches over to your chair. "I highly recommend you replace this puppy if I were you and I noticed your fuel injectors haven' been cleaned and your radiator ain't been flushed and your differentials need the oil changed...for you just be bout six hundred and some change." We usually just nod and say, no, just change the oil with the tacit understand that this is the way the game is played. They try and make money and you say no thank you.

Now the guy without teeth holding a dirty air filter is wearing a tie and a mask and has all his teeth. I noticed this change with the dentists years ago when a hygienist came in and asked if I was ready to have those three cavities filled and that crown replaced. I sat up in the chair. "I don't have three cavities." The hygienist looked at her chart. "Well you have three areas that could be suspect...I'll get the doctor." The dentist came in and confirmed that I actually didn't have three cavities but that I might and this would be preventative. But we could wait and see if I wanted too. Fine. Wait and see. And if I wanted to replace that crown we could do that too. No. I don't want that. And if you want that whitening treatment we highly recommend or that fluoride treatment we highly recommend or swap out that old silver filling then we could do that too. I could have been back in the lube joint. No, I don't want my radiator flushed or my fuel injection system cleaned or my differential changed. Your funeral buddy.

Same with doctors now. Hmm..these numbers are not right. What! What! Well your urine count is off. You better get an ultrasound. Your glucose is a little high, you better get a two hour glucose tolerance test. You better get a stress test, you might have an arrhythmia. But these numbers are all in the normal range doctor. Not necessarily. By the way how is your vision? My vision. Yes, any fuzziness...trouble seeing at night like in a pitch black room...do you ever trip over anything. Well yes....better get an ocular degeneration test while you are at it and you said you had some indigestion well we better get you scoped and by the way when was the last time you had a colon scope...hmm...lets get that in there too...Are you ever hungry when you don't eat? Why yes. Hmm...better get a hypothalamus test. What about sleepy when you don't sleep? Why yes. Alright... a sleep apnea test. You will need to check into the hospital for that one. How about walking...do you move when you walk? Yes....you'll need some crutches then.

Let's face it. Capitalism is not parked at the door anymore. The Hippocratic oath and capitalism move together now. There are monstrous student loans these doctors and dentists have to pay and lots of equipment that must be paid for. And there is competition. I knew I was in trouble when the dentist told me I could watch the inside of my mouth on television. How much did that cost? The depersonalization of health care certainly breeds an assembly line mentality and yes there are still good doctors and dentist out there. But the next time someone comes up to you with a dirty air filter and says you ought to get it replaced, then get a second opinion. You only have so many parts and these days there are no trade ins.

Dentists and Pregnancy - Oral Hygiene When a Baby Is On the Way

Dentists treat all different types of patients with all different sorts of dental issues. When you become pregnant it is very important that you see your dentist on a regular basis. This is a very common thing for many women who are expecting babies. It is a type of gum disease that is related to a shift in hormone levels. It affects an estimated fifty percent pregnant ladies.

This form of pregnancy-induced gingivitis is most commonly seen during the first trimester. This is why you should make sure that you visit your dentist at the start of your pregnancy. The symptoms of it include gums that are tender, swollen, and red and tend to bleed.

If carefully monitored by your dental professional pregnancy gingivitis should go away following your baby's delivery. Your dentist can do everything possible to make sure that it does not progress into a more serious gum problem, known as periodontitis. This is an irreversible disease of the gums that has been associated with premature births.

Expectant mothers who suffer from periodontitis (also referred to as periodontal disease) are seven times more likely than those expectant mothers without this disease to go into labor before their term. It has been theorized that a chemical present in oral bacteria known as prostaglandin causes labor to be induced early. A premature birth can be dangerous to the health of the newborn. These babies exhibit a low birth weight which also makes them susceptible to health problems from the start of their lives.

There are things you can do to protect your teeth and gums during pregnancy. It all begins with proper oral health education. You cannot observe the best care possible of your mouth if you do not know how to do that. Ask the healthcare providers you see to teach you what you need to know. Doctors, dentists, nurses and other professionals should be eager to provide you with the necessary tools.

See your dental professional for both regular checkups as well as cleanings. This is one of the most significant ways to maintain proper oral health care. If you notice any changes in the condition of your teeth and gums then tell your dental provider immediately. Please note that health experts say that it is safe to have tooth decay addressed when you are pregnant. Getting rid of bacteria by having a tooth filled can help to prevent the spread of the bacteria.

Remove plaque from your teeth by brushing your teeth after every meal (or at least twice a day). Flossing before bedtime is also an essential component of oral hygiene. Choose a fluoridated toothpaste and continue to use it following your baby's birth. A non-prescription fluoride rinse that is free of alcohol is also recommended as it decreases plaque buildup in the mouth. Look for one that is antimicrobial in nature.

After you have brushed your teeth give your tongue and the roof of your mouth a good scraping or brushing as well. Bacteria can build up in these areas of the mouth just as easily as it can on the teeth. The more of it you can remove the better.

The Key to Effective Communication With Your Dentist

Most people report being unhappy with their dentist. The problem is, nobody wants to endure the process of finding a new dentist. The enemy you already know is much better than the one you do not know. The good thing is that by making use of some simple communication techniques, it is possible to eradicate this problem once and for all. This is not only the key to getting a perfect dentist, but also establishes the kind of open communication you'll need to have a good working relationship with your dentist for the long haul.

The first step is something that you won't expect to read. It speaks to the underlying psychology of the dentist as a person. Before you do anything else, find out if the dentist will be willing to prescribe you some anxiety medication before you come in. The chances are that if you're reading this article in the first place, you are much more anxious about dental visits than the average person. You're not alone in that, either. Dental anxiety is so common that it is practically ubiquitous. And because visits to the dentist are generally unpleasant, that anxiety tends to increase over time.

Asking a dentist for anxiety medication will not only help you to feel more comfortable when you're at the dentist's office, it will also tell you how much this particular dentist is in tune with your comfort level. In most cases, the dentist will prescribe you the medication right away. But occasionally, you'll get one who gives you a hard time about it. Be careful with those types of dentists, or you may end up with too little pain medication after your next major procedure. A dentist's readiness to give you comfort-inducing medication provides a clear indicator that they want you to feel comfortable. That makes sense, right?

By establishing this type of rapport immediately at the outset of your relationship, you change the nature of your future interactions. People forget that dentists are just regular people. Unless you bring your feelings and comfort to their attention, they'll have no reason to be thinking about it. And you will feel more comfortable because you know that you can ask for help and receive it. Most people feel powerless at the hands of their dentist, but with one tiny maneuver you've pre-empted that entire problem.

The second technique that we'll discuss also centers around changing the way you communicate with your dentist. This time, you'll position yourself as someone who needs information in addition to treatment. A really great dentist will want to talk to you first anyway, but we can't all stumble across really great dentists. All you have to do is to remain standing when the assistant shows you in to the consulting room. Wait until the dentist comes, so that you have a chance to speak with him. Shake the dentist's hand and get to know them for a moment. Ask them what their specialties are and what their approach is to new patients.

By talking to the dentist as a person, you can begin to get the sense for whether their personality is a good fit for your needs as a patient. This is something that few people take the time to do. Every healthcare professional needs to have a good rapport with their patients, and dentists are no different. This can make a huge difference in your level of satisfaction.

Plus, when you've chatted in a normal, personable way, the dentist is better able to care about you as an individual. They will understand you better, and also feel understood by you. This gives them a greater motivation to provide you with excellent, personalized care.

Alongside these very important tips, there are two things I'd like to encourage you to look into. The first thing is a sedation dentist. For people with dental anxieties this cannot be overestimated. The second is a dental emergency room. If anything happens to you on odd hours, this will become invaluable.

Find The Best Dentist - 5 Points That Will Guide You

In spite of the latest developments in modern technology, there is nothing more painful that an appointment with your healthcare professional. Before long you would be looking for the best Dentist. How would you find this elusive professional? Easy, he or she would be best known for his or her innovation and workmanship in Dentistry directories.

Here are five points that would help you chose the best available professional. Go through the information available in directories and yellow pages and short list five to seven top dentists in the Houston area. Obtain an appointment with these people and watch out for the following:

1. Best communication skills: You are looking for a professional with whom you can feel comfortable to talk about your dental problems. He/ she should be able to inspire trust in you and put you at ease. You should also be able to talk with him or her about the cost of the intervention since most dental treatments do not come under medical insurance. An abrupt person who looks like he or she is doing you a favor by explaining things to you is not a good choice.

2. Latest skills acquired: Ask the prospective dentist whether he or she is training continuously in the latest technology. What are the latest certifications he/ she obtained? Does he or she believe in keeping up to date with the developments in dental technology? A worthy professional would stay on the top of such development and apply such technologies in his or her practice. Do your homework, know what the latest in the field and ask him or her about some such aspects and factors.

3. Experience: This is one of the most important aspects. Why? Because experience is what makes his or her steady; helps your doctor identify the problem and make clear diagnosis. Experience is a golden tool that assures you of the best service. Without experience the doctor might be good, but with it he/ she becomes the best.

4. Qualifications: Is your doctor an accredited and recognized professional? Do not shy away from asking this question for it is very important that you put yourself in capable hands. There have been many instances in the past where fraud professionals practiced at the cost of the hapless patients.

5. Best workmanship: This particular attribute would be seen from the doctor's feedback and references. Be bold and ask for references of past satisfied clients. Call these people; better still, pay them a visit and inquire from them what their opinion about the prospective professional and how the past work held. You do not stop here. You run this person's name on the Net and see what you come up with. Sometimes, such results are quite revealing. Let us say, he would refer you to only his or her best clients; the Internet would often tell you if there is another side to the story.

Be patient and be careful. Look into all the aspects before you zero in the best available medical professional for you.

Random Thoughts on Healthcare

I just finished watching a debate of the candidates for President of the US. An issue that was brought up many times was, "health care or the lack thereof" for millions of people in the country. It seems every candidate from both national parties has a different answer to the dilemma of adequate, affordable health care for the masses. Some candidates are in favor of some type of socialized medicine; while others are pushing tax breaks for premiums paid by the consumer. Others are offering the idea of subsidies to help with the cost of the premiums. The common thread running through every proffered solution is a reliance on some type of 3rd party payer.

Since 1942, the growth of 3rd party payers, commonly known as "health insurance providers" has grown to unimaginable proportions. Along with that growth has come some good things (risk sharing) and some not so good things (denial of benefits for pre-existing conditions, claim denial, managed care from afar) among a host of other issues.

Who among us has never had a bad experience with a 3rd party payer? Mine was the unnecessary death of a family member and over $60,000 of out of pocket cost. All that directly attributable to a 3rd party payer. I'm sure each of you has a story of a bad experience, if not worse.. If you care to share, your comments are welcome.

Do you know that every health care insurance company has a department whose sole purpose is to review every potential claim and look for a way to deny or at least reduce the benefit paid to the patient? The better job they do the higher the bonus they receive. This fact only recently became public knowledge during a senate hearing on health care. The senators expressed righteous indignation while chastising the insurance company executives, but extracted no promise to end the practice. What does that mean to you, who have faithfully paid ever-increasing premiums over the years when you encounter a catastrophic health expense? You can be sure your claim will be subjected to the same scrutiny, and if the tiniest reason to deny or reduce the benefit paid to you exists, your out of pocket costs take a dramatic increase. I'm living proof.

As I ponder these issues, I had to wonder what did our parents and grandparents do when they needed medical care? One just has to study healthcare, before 1942, for the answer. This message is not intended to advocate a return to primitive healthcare, only to look at the enormous problem of current healthcare from a different point of view.

I'm probably a lot older than most of you who are reading this so my perspective is a little different. As child, if I needed medical attention, we would visit the Dr., receive the treatment, pay the fee and go home. No claim forms, no pre-authorization, no haggling with some distant voice about treatment, just pay and go. Because the process was so simple, the cost of medical care was a fraction proportionately of what it costs in today's dollars. Granted, the level of care today is light years ahead of those days, but who's to say that same level of care would not have been achieved without the "help" of 3rd party payers.

Since the early 1990's, a movement to return to those days of yore is slowly emerging, but with a new twist. Hundreds of thousands of medical and dental providers are offering their services to millions of patients at deeply discounted fees. This practice saves the providers the unnecessary expense of claims hassling so he/she is willing to provide the service for a discounted fee. Studies have shown that the patient is paying a lower out of pocket cost under that system than they would with an insured plan, not to mention the outrageously high premiums the patient is paying. Another important factor not to be overlooked is the level of service is determined by the two people most closely involved, the Dr. and the patient, no meddling by some distant 3rd party whose only interest in the process is reducing cost, not what is best for the patient.

This movement was spearheaded by a company in Plano Texas who back in 1992 realized there was a better way to provide dental and medical care to the growing army of Americans who were finding the cost and availability of 3rd party protection out of reach. At the inception of this revolutionary concept, the critics thought the creators were preaching heresy and the idea was doomed to fail. Well, guess what? This one single company now has built a network of over 400,000 medical providers, 40,000 dentists and thousand of optical and chiropractic providers and hospitals serving over 2,000,000 members saving them in excess of one billion dollars. Does this concept work? The best measure of success is the small number of people who leave to seek a "better" plan. Less than 20% of the members who join opt out for something "better". That means more than 80% who choose Consumer Driven Health Care are happy with what is working for them. When was the last time any 3rd party payer plan enjoyed such a ringing endorsement? Add to that, every month more than 20,000 people are joining the millions who proceeded them and are beginning to experience the same level of savings as well.

According to U S Census report in 2005, 47 million people are uninsured and nearly 4 times that number are underinsured. What appalling statistics in this time of our history! When the cost of a health insurance premium is now exceeding the average house payment, is it any wonder so many people are uninsured. For the lack of information, far too many people are forced to chose between food and medical care. That brings me to my mission since encountering the opportunity to spread the word to the uninsured masses that there is an affordable, viable alternative to expensive health insurance. For less than the price of a daily Big Mac, every household in the country can rest easy, secure that an umbrella of medical care now protects them and their loved ones.

Forgive the commercial, but time is my enemy so I'm offering anyone who reads this article the opportunity to see why I feel so strongly about the merits of this program. The benefits being experienced by millions of people are available by visiting site in resource box.

Random thoughts on healthcare is a product of my lifetime sad experiences with 3rd party payers and the damage they can inflict, both physical and fiscal. You all probably have experienced similar, if not more agonizingly worse incidents.

Personal Healthcare Reform - Physical, Emotional, Intellectual & Spiritual

Healthcare Reform in the United States has been getting a lot of press lately, and one thing seems certain; we continue to place a monetary value on life. Something that should be a right is being used for extreme profit and individuals all across the world pay the price. No matter where you are in the world, you cannot count on a government or privatized healthcare system. It's time to depend on yourself for the best care in the world.

There are 4 areas of health that should be focused on and they exist in the following hierarchy: Spiritual Health, Intellectual Health, Emotional Health & Physical Health.

Think of each level as including the levels below it. When we address our spiritual health, we are in effect including the other areas. What most of us do is address only our physical health, and we only do that when we want physical pain to go away or to be more visually pleasing. This article will take you through all 4 levels, beginning with the lowest level and moving towards the highest.

Physical Health

The physical health level is really where we see the results of our view of the world. It is where symptoms of problems show themselves when we do not pay attention to the other signs we receive from the other levels. As an example, a person that went through a bitter divorce 25 years ago, but still holds on to the anger associated with that relationship may later develop cancer, ulcers, or asthma. These are all conditions associated with holding on to anger, or feelings of being trapped by anger. We will treat the physical symptom of the much deeper issue, but we very rarely look for the source of the problem, which lies in our thinking. Caroline Myss publishes wonderful material about this phenomenon, if you are interested in understanding this point further.

The other side to physical health is understanding that while you are not your body, you as soul experience the physical realm through your body. Your body is a container. Actually, it's more like a vehicle. So as a visualization, your body is the car that gets you from here to there and back again, and you (soul) are the driver. Your senses are like the indicators on a car dashboard. They collect and communicate data about the environment around you, about the status of the vehicle, and they can alert you to potential physical issues.

When your car breaks down, you are stuck without transportation. The same is true of your body. When it is severely damaged, it will limit your mobility. When the damage is taken to the extreme, it can no longer hold the driver. Also, you can have small issues that mount up to cause a major breakdown. Most of us actually take better care of our cars and homes than we do ourselves. We'll spend the extra dollars on our cars for top-notch oil, regular car maintenance appointments, and carefully watch the miles we put on it. However, we will not pay extra money for more healthy and natural foods, regular doctor and dentist appointments, and ensure that we are receiving enough water and rest.

Emotional Health

The emotional health level deals with our ups and our downs, and the lack of balance we feel emotionally. We have poor emotional health when we allow our emotions to run back and forth between extremes, or when we give our ability to control our emotions over to someone else. The extremes we run may be between depression and high points of temporary happiness. It may be between anger and indifference. It may be between cockiness and insecurity. Poor emotional health also results when we allow others to "push our buttons." In reality, we are simply reacting to them in the way that we always react to a similar situation. We have an emotional trigger that someone has figured out how to set off. Our conditioned response kicks in, and we feel as if we are out of control of the results.

Good emotional health lies within a middle approach to our emotions and within taking responsibility for how we respond emotionally. For example, between cockiness and insecurity lies a healthy confidence and courage. Between anger and indifference lies blamelessness and forgiveness. Between depression and temporary happiness lies healthy self-esteem and bliss. The key to stopping the emotional extremes is to center oneself in the middle of situations. In learning how not to take things so personally or to ignore them completely is the key to seriously looking at and taking responsibility for your emotions. Your emotional response is always your decision, regardless of whether or not you consciously make that decision. And when our emotional health is poor, we can feel the effects physically.

The other side to good emotional health is taking responsibility for your emotional responses. Eleanor Roosevelt once stated, "No one can hurt your feelings without your permission." In other words, people do and say what they will, and you choose how you will respond to it. We are so used to playing the victim role in our lives to escape responsibility that we habitually respond the same way in like situations over and over again. To us it feels as if someone else always controls how we feel. In actuality, you decide how you will feel each and every time. When you choose to take on that responsibility, you take away the emotional remote control you previously gave away to anyone that wanted to push your buttons.

Intellectual Health

Our intellectual health deals with how we think about ourselves, other people, and the world around us. This is the level of our thoughts, beliefs, and judgments. Poor intellectual health consists of self-limiting beliefs and the trafficking of judgments. Self-limiting beliefs are those beliefs we invest our energy into that prevents us from being all that we can be. Examples may be, "I'm not deserving of a lot of money," "I'll never find love," "They will never promote me," "Beautiful women aren't attracted to me," "There are no good single men out there," and "I don't deserve the very best."

What happens is that we create and believe these self-limiting beliefs, and then our actions flow from them. So, when we believe that we don't deserve a lot of money, we don't seek, and are not open to, opportunities to create wealth. When we believe that we will never find love, we simply stop trying, and we may even reject what appears to be love because we can't believe it is possible for us. When we believe that beautiful women or handsome and good single men are not available or interested in us, we don't see them when they are right in front of us, and we don't believe they can be really attracted to us, even when they show us all the signs. When you don't believe that you deserve the best, ask yourself what you are willing to accept.

Judgments create mental barriers between the truth and us. When you believe that someone is ugly based on whatever criteria you use, you fail to see the beauty they also possess. When you judge someone as bad, you may have caught them in a rare moment, but will never know what value they can add to your life because of how you decided to now see them. Your judgment prevents you from seeing anything other than your judgment. In essence, you've made a decision about how you will see that person going forward. The phrase, "the first impression is a lasting one," testifies to the affect our judgments have on people. With little to no information about a person or situation, we quickly judge it and see it in that light for a very long time or even until our death. Even when all subsequent behavior and situations run counter to your judgment, you hold onto it as if it were the most valuable thing on earth.

Good intellectual health is clear of mental blocks and free of judgments. Instead of having self-limiting beliefs, you see that all is possible. Rather than judgments, you observe the truth about this moment. When you free yourself of self-limiting beliefs, you stop asking why something isn't possible for you and begin asking how you can bring what you desire to fruition. You no longer search for reasons why you can't have something, and instead search for how to make it possible.

Many millionaires failed at several different businesses before they found success. They knew they could do it. They just needed to find the right combination of planning, materials, and process to make it possible. Success was never in question. Finding a way to that success was what they focused on. Regardless of what it is you would like in your life, you must first believe that it is possible. By doing so, you release the creative genius that is trapped in your subconscious mind, and you allow your soul to provide some direction through intuition towards what you seek.

Next, you must believe that you deserve it. In truth, there is no such thing as deserving or not deserving something. That is something that we made up in society as a way of controlling the behaviors of others. If you do this, then you are deserving, but if you don't, or you do that, you are not deserving. Spiritual truth is significantly higher than societal truth, and the spiritual truth is that abundance is available for everyone. You need only realize that it is yours for the taking. To believe that you are not deserving is to create another self-limiting belief. It is only true if you believe it to be.

Lastly, remain observant to the opportunities that will come pouring into your life. They may have always been there, but you may not have been able to see them. Or, because of your change in thought, you are now attracting opportunity to you. Either way, look for the opportunities that can lead you where you want to go, and then pursue them with the confidence that you can do it.

Freedom from judgment is the other side of good intellectual health. When you observe the truth of the moment, you aren't making a declaration as to what someone or something is. Rather, you are stating what that person or situation is expressing now. So, when you see a guy slam a door in anger, you don't label him an angry person. Instead, you understand that right now, he is angry.

The judgment that he is an angry person will have you see him that way regardless of how pleasant he is. However, the observation that he is angry right now allows for him to not be angry in the next moment. Rather than putting a label on him to wear for all eternity, you are allowing yourself to see what else is to this individual. You can observe what he is expressing in every moment you are in his presence, which will give you much stronger indications as to the type of person he is. Just as no one knows everything there is to know about you, you cannot know everything there is to know about him. So by observing instead of judging, you are allowing for that which you do not know about him to become known.

Spiritual Health

Spiritual health is the understanding of who you really are. Good spiritual health allows you to see that you are a part of spiritual energy and that same energy of creation is a part of you. In essence you are it and it is you. Everything is of spiritual energy. Therefore, everything is connected through spiritual energy. When you understand this truth, you begin to see that you can understand other people by seeking internally to understand yourself. Rather than searching for God out there in the heavens somewhere, you know that you only need to look internally to see that the energy of God has been inside of you all along. You carry within you the answer to every question ever asked or that has yet to be asked. You are infinity extended in all directions. Everyone and everything is simply an individual expression of that oneness.

To see this oneness in all things will change how you interact with the world. You will see yourself inside of each and every person you encounter. You will see the world in multiple dimensions, and not just the one dimension (surface) that we rely on today. You will understand that energy is all there is, and that everything is energy. Rather than seeing the permanence of everything, you will see that everything is transitioning into something else. Everything is a process. Change is the only constant. When you meditate or pray for something to manifest in your life, that prayer is extended inwardly, and you know that it must be created, because you and the creative energy are one.

Poor spiritual health is seeing everything as separate and seeing who we are as the body we inhabit. Just in seeing that everything is separate, competition and indifference to the suffering of others is automatically born. You will not see yourself in other people because to you, who they are is separate and distinct from you. The mantra here is, "every man for himself." When someone is having a difficulty, you think, "better him than me." When you have a struggle, you ask, "why me." When you pray, it is more of a hope that this being you call God will choose to not victimize you anymore and bring you what you request. Friends are people that don't cause you pain and that bring you pleasure. Enemies are people you see as standing in the way of your happiness or ushering pain into your life. You see yourself as either victimizer or victim depending on the circumstances.

Good spiritual health dictates that you need no one's approval, because everything is an expression of the same source. Poor spiritual health produces good and bad, benevolent and evil, and right and wrong. Good spiritual health teaches that you are born to express the spiritual energy that lies at your center. Poor spiritual health teaches that you were born evil from day one, and that you must be delivered from that evil through organized religious rituals by those that are "appointed" to speak with God on your behalf. Good spiritual health will show you that every moment of your life is a spiritual expression. Poor spiritual health ensures that certain moments, locations, and clothing are sacred, while others are of the devil.

Good spiritual health says that everything is one. Poor spiritual health shows us a battle between God and Satan (or whatever the comparable gladiators are in your way of thinking), which will determine our fates. Good spiritual health says that heaven exists in every moment of life, and that we can experience it if we allow ourselves to. Poor spiritual health says that the God that loves you will send you to hell if you don't do what He says through your "free will" and will send you to heaven if you do. Good spiritual health promotes unconditional love at all times. Poor spiritual health promotes conditional love based on the good or evil that you do in life.

Of the four areas of health, spiritual health is the most powerful. It is up to you to see that by taking a spiritual approach to the various areas of your life, you can have health in all areas of your life. To see yourself as separate and distinct, to give your power to communicate with divinity away to someone else, and to live as both victim and victimizer is the life you live today, which is not working towards your bliss and internal peace. Good spiritual health is to live within heaven on earth, while poor spiritual health is to live a hellish existence on earth. Both are here and now, and both are within your choice to experience and express.

Dentist: Search For A Good One

There are many reasons and situations where you may find yourself in the position of needing to research dentists in your area. Maybe you have recently moved. Maybe you have a new member in your family. Or maybe your regular dentist has relocated to a new community. Whatever the reason, there are a few key points that the American Dental Association recommends you keep in mind when evaluating professionals that you want to be responsible for your oral hygiene and care.

People often wonder where to turn when looking for dentists in their city or community. Perhaps the best and easiest resources are your family, friends, co-workers and neighbors. Talk to people you trust and find out where they go. Get their recommendations and opinions. Other people that may be able to help you are your family doctor or pharmacist. If you or your dentist are moving out of the community, they may be able to help you find dentists in the new area. Often local and state dental societies will also have resources that help you find dentists.

Once you have found a few dentists in your area to visit, there are a few things to keep in mind and questions to ask. Find out what the office hours are and determine whether it fits with your schedule. When traveling between work or home, is the dental office easy to get to? How does the staff deal with missed appointments? Ask your dentists where they were trained and what type of education they have. Do they attend conferences to further their education and specialty training? Ask about anesthesia types and how the office handles emergencies. Does your dental insurance cover you at this particular office?

Your first visit to their office should include many observations such as whether the surroundings are clean, neat, sterile and orderly. Evaluate the rest of the staff on their friendliness and helpfulness. You will probably only want to come back if you are treated kindly and fairly. Lastly, check to see if all staff wear protective gloves and gear while dealing with patients and performing procedures or treatments.

If you require special dental attention, there may be dentists in your area that have received specialized training to help you. Certain health conditions are better managed by dentists that have experience and training in treating patients like you. Occasionally, major universities, public health departments, or state facilities can assist you in finding a dental professional that fits with your special needs and requirements.

All of these tips should help you find an oral healthcare professional in your area that you and your family are happy with. Take time to evaluate many dentists and don't necessarily stick with the first one you try. Spending a little more time up front will save a lot of headaches and pain in the long-run. Choosing a dentist is a long-term investment and worth the time and money.

Shaping Up For Healthcare Degrees Jobs

By encouraging aspiring individuals to maintain a focused approach on acquiring healthcare degrees, jobs are bound to line up for their pickings. Those interested in assisting clinical professionals are opportune for this course of decision as employers tend to favor candidates holding relevant educational qualifications than others. Hence, one who is bidding for a nursing vacancy needs to have the right certificate or degree to ensure success.

As everyone starts at the bottom rung, one who is interested in clinical jobs is not given any special treatment. Perhaps the ideal place to start is with an associate's degree as that is generally what employers look for. Whether the vacancy to be filled is as an assistant to a nurse, dentist, physician or veterinarian, the principle remains the same. To further secure employment of these healthcare degrees' jobs, it may be ideal to have had prior practical experience based on internship programs or training opportunities in actual environments. This helps to remove the stigma of being a greenhorn amongst an experienced crowd.

On the other end of the healthcare employment market, non-clinical jobs are abundant for those wishing to improve their knowledge and skills in administrative and managerial matters. Technological advances have also become so apparent with many health care establishments relying on computerized systems to call up patient information and clinical data. Films and prescription pads are slowly but surely being superseded by digital imaging and electronic prescribing systems. It therefore makes sense for individuals to pursue training in marrying information technology with health care needs.

Healthcare degrees' jobs in developing, implementing and enforcing health care policies are also abundant. Public health also requires its fair share of experts to monitor the general state of health as well as educate society on preservation of good health. In the event of outbreaks and infections, these officers are responsible to contain the situation by working with relevant agencies and health care facilities.

Factor Your Medical Receivables with Exclusive Programs for Healthcare Industry

Factoring is when a business sells its receivables for a service or product delivered to another business. Many people in the healthcare industry think that medical receivables can't be factored because the "customer" is a person and not a business. But medical receivables can be factored because in most cases, your payment comes from Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Aetna, etc. In other words, the payment is coming to you from a business, so the receivables CAN be factored.

In the past, healthcare professionals could depend on efficient operations to keep

their cash flowing, but that often is not enough now. Increased costs and longer

times for insurance companies and Medicare to pay the bills are making it

impossible for them to keep their practices running smoothly.

Most factoring companies do not factor medical receivables, but there are several

that specialize in this niche. They fully understand that accounts that are paid by

third party payors take more due diligence and more things have to be looked at

than with "regular" factoring. They know these receivables are filed and paid

differently by different states and then have elaborate payment methods and

computations. There are government and insurance regulations, delayed

reimbursements, HMOs, contractual allowances, multiple payors and many more

challenges that are only found in the healthcare industry. The factors who specialize

in your industry know all the lingo and terminology and will immediately understand

your needs.

The healthcare businesses that will most easily be approved for factoring are: Acute

or Rehab or Specialty Hospitals, Physicians, Surgery or Imaging Centers, Dialysis or

Urgent Care or Rehab Centers, Ambulance companies, Medical Labs, DME/HME,

Osteopaths, Oral Surgeons, Pharmacies, Home Health Care and Workers Comp

Healthcare Providers and some Chiropractor groups.

There are certain types of health related businesses that might be more difficult to

factor, mostly because the net collectable value from the private insurance

companies or government is too small each month for a factor to be interested.

These are small chiropractors, dentists, cosmetic surgeons and Lasik doctors (often

not covered by insurance) and some nursing homes because of credit problems.

Medical receivable factoring companies all have different minimum monthly net

collectable amounts, so ask your broker for the one that will be able to help your

business. Some work with amounts as small as $35,000-$50,000, others have a

minimum of $200,000.

Once your account is set up with the factor, you will receive up to 85% of the

invoices within hours of turning them in each week. When the bills are finally paid,

you will receive the rest of the amount owed, minus a small fee. The fee depends on

many things and will probably range somewhere between 2% and 6%.

You will lose all the stress of not knowing when you will be paid for the work you

are doing. You'll be able to pay all your vendors and staff on time, you'll be able to

keep up with all your bills. You will even be able to hire more staff or buy more

equipment, because you'll know you can accept more business.

There have been instances when a medical business has been on the brink of

bankruptcy and decided to try factoring as a last ditch effort and it saved them.

They were able to turn everything around and are thriving now.

Factoring should be considered as a tool for growth and management, not as a last

resort to save your business. Unless your practice has very expensive equipment or

diagnostic devices, your largest asset is its accounts receivables and these assets

can be used to keep your business running smoothly and growing.

Dental CPR Certification - How to Choose the Right CPR Class For Your Dentist Office

So it's that time again. The Dentist has just told you that it's time to renew your CPR certification and that the entire office is way overdue. You need to take a CPR Class yesterday.

"Handle it," he tells you.

"Oh great," you think in your head, "That's just what I wanted to do."

So you do the first thing that comes to mind - hop on the computer and go to Google. You type in Dental Office CPR and a huge list of results appears. A list of dentists that are CPR certified comes up, with some companies that train dentists as well. You see some online CPR training and think, "That might be a good idea..." There are so many options and different classes to take; you just want to get it over with. Frustrated, you get up from the desk and walk away. You will take care of it after lunch.

Sound familiar? Maybe I can help...

First off, which class do you need? The last thing you want to do is put your office through a CPR class and realize that you wasted 4 hours of your time in the wrong class! The CPR certification that all dentists need is BLS for the Healthcare Provider. BLS stands for Basic Life Support and the class should be taught by an American Heart Association Instructor.

Next, why not take the class in the comfort of your own office? Find a company that can bring their supplies to you, and train you on your time, in between appointments. Since you are going to sit through the class anyway, it might as well be informative. The best companies will put you through scenarios utilizing all of your office personnel, and will remind you how to use all of the supplies available at your office (Oxygen, CPR Barriers, etc.)

Finally, make sure you get your share of Dental CEUs! Make sure that the company you hire is certified through the Dental Board of your state, so that they can issue you your Dental CEUs. You should be able to receive 4 hours of CEUs for your Dental CPR class.

Now, next time your boss asks you to book a class, remember these three things: Take the BLS class, get certified in your own office, and make sure you get those dental CEUs!

Online Collaboration Software Helps Dentists Work Smarter

Dentistry has come a long way since the days when collaboration meant an unpleasant hour spent sitting upright in an uncomfortable chair gazing up at what looked like instruments of torture through the eyes of a small boy. Thanks heavens that modern technology now allows dentists to perform techniques painlessly that were not thought of a mere 20 years ago.

This new technology includes web-based collaboration software that allows stakeholders involved in a dentist's enterprise to all work smarter together, not harder by using a selectively accessible collaborative platform. This is how it works:

o The receptionist at a dental surgery enters appointments into a dentist's diary that the receptionist, dental assistant and the dentist can all see. As the treatment proceeds, the dental assistant enters the procedures and raw materials concerned onto a computer. As patient check out on departure, the receptionist hands them an invoice for the work just done.

o The dental technician no longer has to wait for the courier to deliver a dental model. Everything required for prosthetic modeling is now created and transmitted online electronically.

o Every morning the dentist's raw material supplier downloads a list of orders generated from the dentist's materials requirements planning system, and picks stock in terms of agreed order points. Replenishments arrive at the dentist's surgery seamlessly, and stock-outs are a thing of the past.

o The dentist's accountant has access to billing information generated by these modern collaboration tools. This facilitates a quick turnaround of annual results and income tax returns, with everybody working off identical original information.

o Finally, each dental patient can log onto their part of the group collaboration database, confirming appointments and making sure that payments submitted electronically have been received.

These technical enhancements do more than simply improve productivity and speed up a process. They also cluster co-workers, suppliers and customers around a common vision, and create a bond around shared information. Conflicts and confusions are less likely to occur as well, when everybody is reading the same page

Other departments of the medical profession are exploring the potential of these technologies that were developed for dentists. Surgeons can see the results of x-rays instantly, and may request more detail while their patients are still in the radiology department. Doctors no longer have to wait for couriers to deliver the results of pathology tests. The endless opportunities are improving healthcare for everyone.

This is no longer a vision for the future and it is happening across America everyday. All the parties are working together now, and reading from the same page. Online collaboration software definitely helps dentists and other medical practitioners to work smarter.

Dentists and Health Care Professionals Can Get Ample Working Capital Through Factoring Receivables

Are you a dental professional or health care provider in need of working capital? The simple solution in today's tight credit market could be accounts receivable factoring.

Until recently, individual doctors, dentists and physician groups could easily go to their local bank and get all the working capital they needed. But, while banks still loan money for that purpose, getting a loan or line of credit can be an uphill battle.

The 'credit crunch' has caused a major tightening in underwriting parameters at banks nationwide. banks typically require a minimum credit score of 685, the practice must have a track record of profitability, and start-ups are excluded. Businesses who would have easily qualified for a line of credit six months ago are getting turned down.

The main problems with a bank loan are: it creates debt on which you pay long term interest at high rates, a low credit score locks you out of qualifying, and it often requires a personal guarantee and additional collateral.

Factoring is an excellent means of acquiring needed cash flow. Medical receivables factoring is the business of buying third-party accounts receivable at a discount so as to make a profit from collecting them. There are very positive differences between bank loans and factoring.

o Factoring is not a loan. It is an off-balance sheet transaction so the factoring fees are a deductible expense.

o Personal guarantees aren't required, as they are for a bank loan.

o Funds can be received within a week of applying, provided all documents are received in good order.

o With factoring, additional collateral is not required to be pledged.

o Funding is only limited by the company's pool of receivables, as opposed to bank financing, which usually loans a maximum amount.

o The credit of the business or its owners is not of major importance to the factoring company.

With factoring, funding is limited only by the amount of third party receivables the professional has on its books.

Third party receivables are those amounts due from insurance companies like Blue Cross and government programs such as Medicare and Medicaid. With medical invoice factoring, the healthcare provider submits a batch of invoices to the factoring company and receives an advance at a rate that is determined by the contract.

The advance rate is typically 75% - 85% of the estimated net collectible value of the invoices. The remaining amount (the reserve) is remitted back to the provider upon collection, less the factoring fee.

Are you a healthcare provider or dental professional in need of an infusion of working capital? Referring the best resources for medical receivables factoring is just one of the many money management strategies I provide to my clients to insure they achieve their financial goals and build wealth for their long-term financial freedom.

Five Steps To Finding A Great New Dentist

If you've moved to a new city or grown tired of your current dentist, you may be on the look out for a new clinic for your oral healthcare needs. Here are five ways to make sure you find the right new dentist.

1. Once you've decided you need a new dentist, you need to begin your search. The first step is to ask your friends and family for recommendations. If they are registered with a local practice and have good things to say, it's worth checking them out.

Most important, you need to like the dentist. Having work performed by a dentists is rarely enjoyable, but imagine having it done by someone who doesn't make you feel comfortable. The other thing to find out is how experienced the dentist is.

3. Once you're satisfied that the dentist is someone you would trust with your oral health, you then need to make sure that the practice is equipped to provide all the services that you're going to need. Do you need a dental implant clinic, for instance?

4. If you have children, then it's important to check whether the dental practice is family-friendly. If you don't have kids, on the other hand, you may prefer an adults-only dentists.

5. The last thing to make sure before you commit to joining a new dentists is their availability. There is a lot of peace of mind in knowing that when you need urgent dental treatment, you won't have to wait too long before you can have an appointment.

Children and Dentists: Preparing Your Child For An Appointment

Dentists may look forward to seeing their children patients, but children are often less than thrilled at the thought of having someone poking around in their mouths. If your child is scared or tends to misbehave while at the dentist's office then there are things you can do to make things less stressful for your little ones.

Find a pediatric dentist for your child. A healthcare professional who is trained in working with children will be more understanding and patient than will a professional who is only used to working with adults. It would be a good idea to interview the practitioner before you bring your son or daughter in. Ask him how he deals with children when they are upset to about having their teeth checked. If the doctor seems reluctant to answer some of the questions you ask, then for your child's sake you should continue to interview other oral health professionals who understand young patients.

A child patient often spends more time in the hygienist's chair than being looked at by the medical practitioner. That means that once you find a hygienist who is gentle and has a good rapport with your child, this is someone you want to stay with. If the hygienist can work at a speed that is satisfying to your young one and can put a smile on his or her face, then they're a keeper for sure. Your child will welcome a familiar and friendly face when you arrive at the dental office.

To help your child to relax before the appointment rolls around, tell him or her what to expect. You might want to role play "dentist's office" with them or check a book on the subject out from the library. This can help to allay your child's fears and anxieties, so that when you walk through the door at the office they will be prepared and not as nervous.

Book an appointment at a time that is the least stressful for the patient. The time or day of the week could play a vital role in whether the dental visit will be a successful and positive one for your son or daughter or whether it will not go as well as planned. On the day in question, try to keep everything as in balance and as relaxed as possible in your child's life. Upheaval on the day of the appointment is not what either of you want.

It is very common to have to spend some time in the waiting area of the office. Plan ahead for this. Bring a couple of toys or books for your child. Some offices have a play area for children, but not all children want to play there; you should be prepared with your own selection of goodies. For an older kid or teenager you might want to bring along an electronic game or iPod that they can listen to while they waits for their name to be called.

How Dentists Work Out Their Charges

Many people who seek the various healthcare services provided by dentists often express an interest in knowing how these professionals work out their charges. It is easy to understand where this interest comes from, especially when you take into consideration the fact that it is easy to get the same service, from two different dentists and at absolutely different rates.

Definitely, charges for dentists' services are not like the prices for most products (the service is a product, in the business sense), which tend to be more or less constant across the respective sectors. The end result is where, for instance, one dentist could charge you some $100 for a 'tooth extraction' service, with another one, within the same town, charging you some $200 for the same service. It gets even more interesting when we look at special services like teeth whitening and teeth straightening, where the variations in charges can be spectacular.

It is all this, then, that leads to the question as to how dentists work out their charges.

And as it turns out, there are a number of factors that dentists take into consideration, in determining their charges. What is worth keeping in mind though, is the fact that there also guidelines that are set by their professional bodies on what they should charge. Most of these though, will be in terms of how far low not to go in terms of their charges, so as not to introduce 'under-cutting' practices in the profession. So in a given area, it may be left to the individual dentists to work out what they will be charging for their services - provided they don't go below a certain stipulated minimum. There will also tend to be a mention of some ceilings, put in put place to avoid outrageously high bills, which can put these healthcare providers with insurance companies. Of course, these stipulations may not always be adhered to.

Within the stipulated pricing floors and ceilings (where indeed they happen to be adhered to), it is usually upon the dentists to work out what they want to charge for their services in a 'free market' model.

One of the factors that ultimately determines what a given dentist charges is the type of patients (maybe we could call them clients) he targets to serve. Of course, dentists, like other healthcare providers wouldn't want to be seen as being very businesslike, but the truth of the matter is that there is a lot of business consideration that goes into their work. Different practitioners, too, target to serve different demographic groups; with a practitioner who targets an affluent clientele having the opportunity to use pricing to ensure that they only get that type of clientele.

Another factor that is taken into consideration in determining what to charge is where the dentist in question practices. If the dentist is working in a hospital complex with other doctors, chances are that he or she will want to harmonize their charges with those of other practitioners there. Indeed, some hospital complexes have this as a matter of policy requirement, so that you have to adhere to it, in order for you to continue practicing from their premises.

The profile dentists manage to build for themselves also go some way in determining what they can charge for their services (and actually have people pay). This is especially the case in areas like cosmetic dentistry, where the dentists who build a reputation for delivering spectacular results can, over time, have people coming from far and wide seeking their services -and willing to pay a premium for good results.

Dentists Can Be Scary

Many people are scared of dentists. It's so common in fact, that a person doesn't even have to be traumatized by an adverse event at their oral healthcare provider in order to have an inherent fear of them. While jokes are common and the situation is often made light of, being afraid of the dentist is no laughing matter for some folks. So what can you do to overcome your fear and confidently get the oral healthcare that you need?

First, it's important to look objectively at the situation. Is there a particular event in your past or specific reason you are afraid of dentists? There may not be a specific cause, but knowing a concrete reason can be the first step toward resolution.

It's also important to take the time to find a dentist that you like and trust. There are a wide variety of dentists and each differ in their level of skill and bedside manner. If you like to talk to people with a good sense of humor that make you feel at ease, then it will be worth your time to find a casual and genial person to do your dental work. However, maybe jokes make you more nervous and it would be better to find a down-to-business professional to work on your teeth. It may be helpful to poll your friends and family for dentists that they like and reasons why they make them feel safe. Dental schools can also be a good source of information and referrals.

Remember that you always have the freedom to leave a dental office at any point if you are uncomfortable. Dentists and their assistants are there to help you and the professionals in their healthcare office should do their best to make you feel comfortable. Trauma and pain are not regular parts of a dental visit and should not be accepted as the norm. Keep your standards high and feel free to shop around to find a dentist that makes you feel safe and secure.

Another option that may be available to people who are afraid to get any dental work done is to ask about sedative dentistry. It is a form of medicated dentistry where the patient is relaxed and kept calm with either oral or IV drugs. It is a safe and popular way to get those teeth clean and healthy.

Next, be sure to visit your dentist regularly. This may sound counterintuitive for someone that is afraid of dentists, but regular visits mean your time - and dental work - with be less each time you walk through the door. Avoiding regular checkups can mean costly and painful dental work in your future. Simple cleanings and checkups every six months can go a long way to preventing major dental problems and keep your visits short.

And so, while many people are afraid of dentists, there are several things you can do to help resolve yourself of that fear. Contact an oral healthcare provider in your area today and make an appointment! Consider it the first step toward getting over your fear of dentists once and for all!

Healthcare - The Fastest Route to a Bright Financial Future

We are all pursuing education so as to secure our future financially. Hence it is very necessary to take up education in fields that are fast growing, so that we can also get the maximum financial benefits in the years to come.

Healthcare is seen as one of the fastest growing opportunities in the US. According to the US Department of Labour, seven out of 10 highest growing jobs are in the healthcare industry.

This has been primarily due to the "Baby Boomers", who are fairly well off and can afford a more than reasonable amounts to spend on healthcare.

People born in the 1950's, who are still in great health, are hiring people to tend to their aging parents. Earlier people used to take care of their parents themselves, but now they can very well afford to hire help. With escalating healthcare costs, the demand for professionals with lower wages and lower skills is skyrocketing, The growth in demand for doctors and nurses is fairly steady. But medical assistants, dental assistants and physical therapist aides should expect a growth of at least 30% in the next few years.

Dental assistants will be in great demand as Dentists are going to need more assistants for routine tasks, so they can devote more time to specialised tasks.

Most assistants learn on the job, but now more people are going for specialised training, which normally takes 1 year or even less to complete.

Their jobs covers functions like sterilizing equipment, prepare and layout instruments and other dental material, collect dental records, prepare patients for treatment, assist the dentist during the process, take X-rays, prepare dental impressions and a whole lot of associated activities.

For those who wish to pursue this career, a background in biology, chemistry, health is needed. Further training with programs approved by the American Dental Association (ADA), which are either a 1 year Certificate or Diploma, or a 2 year Associate degree. There are a number of private vocational institutes that even offer 6 months training, but these are not accredited.

Even after completion of the program, on-the-job training is considered important and assistants have to learn the manner in which the dentist runs his clinic and the procedures and practices that he follows. These can vary from dentist to dentist.

A person can expect to work 35 to 40 hours in a week at wages ranging from $15 to $25 per hour.

Similarly, Medical assistants will also be in short supply and the demand is going to grow very fast.

Medical assistants are practically running the clinics of physicians, chiropractors and other health practitioners. Their duties vary from clinic to clinic, depending on the location, size and specialty of the practitioner. They handle both administrative and clinical tasks. They maintain patient records, deal with insurance, interact with hospitals, laboratories in addition to other basic office activities like telephones, correspondence, appointments etc.

Post secondary programs are offered for a 1 year certificate or diploma, or for a 2 years Associate degree.

However formal training is not really required, as on the job training can also be suitable to get a job.

The job generally is a 40 hours per week full time or part time occupation. The annual salaries vary from $24000 to $40000.

In all these professions, certifications from recognised bodies can be of great help. Also all these jobs offer great scope for further progress into associated fields, thereby the person can be assured of a secure financial future.

In case you need more information about these professions, please comment on the article or you can contact the author by email
